1.)Who has installed one of the rack and pinion kits on an E-body? 2.) What's the best kit? 3.) What Problems, if any, to install?
Thanks

If you do a search, you may find that the best way to get a rack is to use a kit that replaced the Kframe and all front suspension components, like AlterKtion or XV.

Friend of mine recently made the mistake of putting a power rack&pinion system on his '70 Roadrunner. Not sure of the brand and such. Someone told him it was better than the stock steering system. Now he has had nothing but problems with linkage angles and toe-in settings changing during accelerating, making the car dangerous to drive.
He had the entire R&P-assembly moved about 3" under the car to improve the linkage-angles.
Now he's not really up to snuff when it comes to this technical stuff and farms out most of the work to others, but I wonder how and IF this system was designed to work on a stock K-member car.

Look at RMS.Bill makes a nice setup.Typically you have tons of problems just trying to stuff a rack under one.You usually get a lot of bump steer.Rocky

That's what I'm thinking. replace everything as a package.
Thanks

the RMS AlterKtion has a good rack (which is installed in front of the engine, by the way, not taking the place of the OEM steering link).

I have the power version, and it's not too assisted (unlike OE steering boxes), which feels much safer. There's a manual version available.

But replacing the whole K-member and suspension just to install R&P seems a little extreme.

What's the rationale for wanting R&P in the first place?
