I see that most coils fire for about 350 microsecond but Pertronix coils fire in the 1,500 microsecond range, almost 5x longer.

Will that harm a normal engine (10:1 w/forged pistons)?

Will it burn the fuel any better or does normal combustion take over?

Does the Pertonix coil need its own system?

I wouldn't worry about burning the spark longer into the ignition sequence. It will help burn the itty bitty stuff that's hard to ignite. Unless you have a problem it shouldn't be significant.

If you change WHEN it starts the burn you're going to have a problem. That means you're advancing or retarding the timing.

Let it burn into combustion. No problem there.
