Hi !
I`m planning on getting the car out to the track in the next couple of weeks and actually getting on it hard. (haven`t yet made a full/hard pass - mechanical issues). I`m running leaf springs , a C/E axle floater , and ladder bars. The car has a Glide w/brake and a MagForce front end . The car is powered by an alloy Hemi 874hp/750ft.pds . I have 14.5/32/15 Goodyears with D3 rubber . Where should the rear double adjustable Afco rear shocks be set and what about the front single adjustable Aldans ?
Sure appreciate some feedback on this one

I would defiantly set the front on the 90/10 setting or the most fast/easiest extension setting.
On the back its just hard to say, so I would set them in the middle, have someone there knowledgeable watching, and if possible record and video the launch. Dont be two quick to make changes, make a few passes for consistency, and only make one shock change at a time.
Cool car you have...and good luck

I wouldnt set the fronts on the light setting... I would
start on the stiffest setting in the fronts with your
light weight hemi and a lightened front end... I think
its going to come up easy enough... rears... try about
3/4 stiff(extension)... but that will depend on the
ladder bar setting

At least put the fronts somewhere in the middle for the first passes until you see what it does, wouldn't be good the first pass to rip off the back bumper and smash and oil pan. Start conservative then loosen up if it wants it.

Yeah middle to soft on the rear , and I`m not sure it really matters on the front so much? I wonder how much difference using the t-brake would have on how I set up the shocks? The same ,or just that things will react faster with the brake? Oh yeah , then there`s the air pressure issue for the slicks.......

I recently switch my rear coil over shocks from Strange Engr. single adjustable to double adjustable, I ask on here for suggestions and got some. I started with mine set in the middle on both settings, the car spun. I change both settings to dead soft and the car hook good, just like it did with the single adjustables. I then treid two clicks stiff on the compression and saw no measureable changes, ET, 60 ft. times or reaction times. I ended up trying two clicks on the extension and didn't see a measurable change with that setting either That was it for that weekend, I am going to Woodburn this weekend to run the car with this motor and shocks at a 1/4 mile track at a low (180 ft. instead of 2500 ft at our home track) altitude I am planning on testting the shocks some more, if time allows I would take MRPbody advise and set the fronts on stiff and set the rears on dead soft on both extension and compression BTW, how old are your tires? If less than six months and no runs do a normal burnout, not a John Force style funny car one, if older than six months and if they have been run you may need to do a J.F burn out the first time, maybe not Good luck, let us know your results

Set the fronts full stiff. You have a fairly light car, a big tire and big power. This car does NOT need to pitch rotate to plant the tire. Let the power work the suspension and the tire. That said, don't set the rears on full loose either. The object of the exercise, is to "control" the rear end housing, not let it fly around and do what it wants to do. Shocks are what controls the housing. Dead soft settings, just let the car rise and fall quickly in the rear, without pushing on the rear end housing. Set the extension fairly stiff, 3/4 maybe and the compression in the middle for starters. Should be close.

My tires are new and have only one burnout on them. I used to run about 7 - 8 # in them with the 340 set up and no problems. But this is going to be a whole new ball game with the Hemi/Glide set up. The Glide has a 1.76 1st gear too btw. Any tire pressure rec`s?
Thanks for the input so far too !

Do you feel its about the same weight as before and
what trans did you use before... if it was a 3 speed
as in a 727 or 904 then going to the glide I would
try them where you ran them before and video your
launch... the glide will hit them easier but watch
your side walls.... I run 7# in my 14x31 with a 2400#
car with 52% on the rear
Try them at 8# and then adjust, 7# may be on the low
side

Yeah, I spun at 10# (about 4 turns -see vid.) I`ll go with 8# . I seem to remember that working well , with the 340 /727 anyway.

Yeah , that problem was dealt with at the end of last season . Basically the steering arm bent on that spindle. They are made by Afco and work with the aftermarket front end I`m using. The front end manufacturer fixed both units so this wouldn`t occur again . This was apparently an early design (f/e)and has been redesigned since.I`ve re installed it found no binding and the alignment is also good. We`ll see.

The thing with it is it looks to change big time from
going backwards to pulling forward and then hitting
the brake... like the idler arm is moving ALOT
or the ball joint is ready to fall out... that or
a bushing is gone

With the fiberglass I now have on the car, as opposed to the old set up (all steel ), and the weight of the alloy motor , I think the car weigh`s about the same or a little less. Just that now I think the weight distribution will be better. I was running a 727 with the 340.

Yup ! You can bet I`ll be doing a good hard J.F. style burnout when I get it out to the track to test it out again !
