Just got 440 Block back from having cam brngs installed.looked all over for stampings-none to be seen on Block or Trans,or in area along pan skirt close to starter. Only found stamped letters/numbers on flat area of Block in front of
where Intake Manifold bolts on as follows: top line: C 440,and below that: 8 22HP 2.This Block/Engine/Trans I know to be original to '67 GTX Convertible-help,please!! Also does dual point

Most pre-1969 blocks have no V.I.N. Distributor will work. C 440 means 1967 440. 413,426,440 use the same distributor shaft length.

To add to the previous post:

8 22 HP2 = Engine Assembly date....August 22 High Performance 2nd shift.

For VIN stamping look on the rear of the block on the top rail behind and left of oil sending unit where motor meets trans.

Hemi distributor work in a 440 block??

What they said , compare the engine assembly date to the cars scheduled production date to get an idea if it may be the original engine .

Yes the hemi dist will fit and work in the 440.

C = 1967 Production model year
440 = Cubic inches
8 22 = August 22nd 1966 assembly date
HP = High Performance engine
2 could be either "2nd shift" or the 2nd engine assembled that shift

There was no VIN stamping anywhere on the engine or transmission on any 1967 vehicles, that did not begin untl 1967. The cars SPD (Scheduled Production Date) was typically later than the engines assembly date by a few days, weeks, or, months. Other than the engine assembly date coinciding with a particular cars SPD there is no sure fire way to know if any particular 67 engine was original to any specific 67 vehicle.

As mentioned, any year Raised Block distributor (383 (RB) 413,426(wedge or Hemi),440) will work in any year Raised Block engine
