What is a safe nitrus level on small block? Running stock block, half fill, arp studs, steel crank, steel h beams, forged pistons, compression around 12 to 1, and mls head gaskets. Thanks

there are three issues as i see them
as you step on it..
first..your combo prolly makes a decent amount of power now..
so be careful when people throw out plate power levels...(added hp numbers)
its total power...that is the threshold..
for instance i know guys who run 250 shot on 300 hp 318..
that is relative to your 450hp 380" motor..

head gasket seal has come up for me a few times.
but crank shaft main cap walk will prolly be
the real factor..
i run about 380 hp engine ive put (.73 no2 pill in it) i think thats 200hp..?

i am not sure id go much past 250hp..with your power level...
fwiw..cheapst..

Two things wrong right here.....the gaps are too tight, plus you have moly rings. Nitrous and Moly rings don't mix well. I'm sure you will get plenty telling you they sprayed a ton of nitrous a million times on Moly rings and never had an issue. I call BS. It is not a matter of "if" but "when" the moly flakes off the rings, when using nitrous.

75HP will run forever properly tuned.

Funny thing they are never properly tuned on the first pass.

Folks have ran 175HP and thought everything was OK and then got a real surprise when they tore the engine down. Cylinder wall scored and moly flaked off rings.

75HP will give you half a second on a 11 second ride. But that is a lot of trouble for half a second when you could properly gap the rings .030" and use a better ring and run 250HP.

No. "Hellfire" just refers to the material, not the style ring. ANY ring material can be a gapless ring, if prepared for that. For a nitrous app, you can use stainless, a hellfire, tool steel, or even just a plain cast ring, just not Moly. Any type of ring flutter(common with nitrous improperly tuned) will knock the Moly off, so you don't use a coated ring.

As far as gaps on spray, I run more than most, because I DO NOT want the rings to butt and the motor will never see the extra gap. People put way too much stock in tiny ring gaps. The only way a motor notices the gaps, is if they are just crazy big. I have had the setting get off on my filer and have a hole with a .060 gap. The motor never knows. The only time I spend a lot of time filing rings, is on a class "record" motor. On these, the ring package is so light, it's done in 10 passes anyway and time for a freshen.

I use Total Seal AP tops with Napier 2nds , helfires tend to be hard on the cylinder walls , i blistered the moly coating off the rings on a 200 shot when i first starting spraying , probably was'nt the best of tunes but if i had of stepped up with a better tune they would'nt of lasted anyhow , i use bore x .007" for ring gaps (spray 500) , i gap top & 2nd the same although some guys go bigger on the 2nd , my reasoning is 2nd ring will always be larger in a running engine , used gapless 2nds a few years ago & had a few issues.

i have to agree more gap is better. Tight ring gaps murder the ring groove. I wouldn't go .060 on a small block on purpose but like Monte I don't know that you would notice a power decrease. I don't go bigger on the second gap either. I don't go tighter on the second as the little paper tells you. I'm told piston/ring manufacutures tell you to go tighter in case you had an oil control ring problem you would be less likely to pump oil between the upper rings.

Different strokes for different folks but .040" is nothing to be afraid of on a small block. Mine did not but rings on nitrous and made great power NA also.
