Depending on the valve stem diameter and type of racing and fuel used Ilike to see close to .0015 to .0017 on the intakes for N/A drag race gasoline motor with a 11/32 and 3/8 stem and right at .0020 on the exhaust with a N/A gas motor. Looser is always better than a tiny bit (.0001) tight. As far as movement what might feel like a lot to me may not be much to you, you have to have the correct tools to measure it to see what you actually have

Do you have access to a good machine shop that can measure the actual clearances on the valves and guides? If so post those numbers and maybe someone who is competent on alcohol motor buiding will comment
