In August of 2004 I began taking my numbers matching 69 Road Runner apart to have the car done correctly. After getting sidetracked building a streetable '68 Hemi Barracuda and some other distractions I finally delivered the rolling body to Troy Angelly earlier this year to get the car completed. I've only been to his shop once, since then, to see the progress but knowing the quality of work he does I don't worry if the job is being done to the highest standards.
Troy has stayed on my car pretty much full time and it's about to hit the paint booth for some color, W1 over F8. I don't remember 2 tone Road Runners in '69 but approximately 656 hardtops were produced. Troy has been extremely good about taking detailed pictures of all the areas that required attention (probably 239,456 pictures so far)and providing a detailed description of the work performed for each billing cycle. Can't wait to see her in color.
When Troy is done with her then it's off to Paul Jacobs' shop for re-assembly. Paul has already restored all of my components, back in '04 & '05, so we only need a couple of wrenches and about 3 days & it'll be done.....well maybe a few more days.

And this is what the car looked like when I delivered it to Troy, although I put it in epoxy primer after sanding every square inch of metal after coming back from the dip tank. The car was structurally sound but Troy ran into some hidden rust issues that required some TLC.
what did you use for quarter panels..any pics of them being hung? how much of the replacement quarter did you use... I need to skin my Coronet just not sure...where to cut

Here is one of the latest pictures. I think she should be in the paint booth this week but if not no big deal. I'm just glad to finally get her back to her original condition.
Well she is finally in the green and white. I've attached a couple of pictures of it before the top was painted. Troy just painted the top this evening but don't have any pictures yet. He hasn't wet sanded or buffed her yet but the shine looks pretty good as it sits. I'll see the car on Saturday on my way back from Georgia. First of the week it goes to Paul's shop and the re-assembly will begin. I'm hoping to have it done by the Indy Swap meet in March. It will be with the cars from the Indy Mopar Club, I hope!

Nice did you put the numbers back into the left quarter panel ??? just askin
The numbers are on the trunk weatherstrip lip and that looks intact, so I don't see the issue.
Car looks fantastic!

The full qtr's do not include the drip rail (where the vin is stamped) but do include the glass corner but be prepared to do some work at this area, they are not like NOS but are pretty good. Other areas will need some work also as they are not a perfect fit. Yes, the ss trim on the C pillar is the same as a vinyl top car and the ss trim at the windshield area is also the same. The re-assembly is scheduled to start next week so I'll try and post some pictures of it's re-birth. It will look a lot different than most Road Runners due to it's paint combo and full wheel covers but I think it will be very well received because of the quality of the restoration. If I didn't have the build sheet and fender tag and if this were not a full numbers matching car I NEVER would have invested the money in this restoration. Troy and Paul do outstanding work as do others on this board.

Could have been one of those cars. I'd be curious as to how many color combos like mine still exist. I'm not privy to all the remaining '69 RR V02 paint code cars but I only know of 3 that are still around.

Well done sir. Nice lick of paint.
Troy did a terrific job replicating the factory paint job but the green is much nicer than what the factory produced, but not too shiny.

Thank you. Are you doing the body and paint or having a restoration shop do the work? Any current pictures of your car? What drive train? What are the colors?

Stopped by Troy's place on Saturday and it's all done. He did an EXTREMELY good job on this car and I can't wait to get it put together. For such a young man he is very, very talented and very knowledgable about these old muscle cars.
Congrats, your car is beautiful. Troy & Paul do amazing work, and I have already decided that even though I live in Canada, they will be doing the resto on my Charger. If all goes well, hopefully sometime next year. I hope you will bring the Runner to the Mopar Nats or Carlise this year, would love to see it.

You might want to think of calling Paul or Troy and have them pencil you in as they often times have a back log of cars. I hope to have it at the Nats but not sure about Carlisle, depends on work and my other comittments. I am VERY happy with the car and we're shooting to have it at the Chrysler Performance Show and Swap Meet on the 5th & 6th of March here in Indy.
Would love to come down to the show in Indy, my wife is preg and the baby due March 3, so that aint going to happen. Hopefully in the summer though!

John, are you planning on any upcoming events to debut the car?
I think the car show at Adesa Auto Auction will probably be the first one AND there isn't any race going on that weekend so I should be there. Just need to figure out how to get Indy Cylinder Head's drag racing simulator and my car there. Carol Ann could drive the car out but then again she doesn't know how to drive a stick. I'll figure something out.

Probably not enough to paint an entire car. The paint is a great match to the original F8. Pic's about to be posted.

Sorry, I put the Cragars on a'68 RR I had but sold the car a couple of years ago. Cragars ARE the best looking wheel on these muscle cars as they are period correct. Of course, this is my opinion.

It looks like it belongs but according to the experts, only black carpet is available with no other color options with the 4 speed unless you have a console.
as is with anything Mopar. I don't think anything was written in stone.
I've owned 4 different 4 speed cars and the only one with black carpet had black interior. 1st - 1969 GTX hardtop - red interior - red buckets - console - red carpet 2nd - 1969 GTX convertible - blue buckets int - console - blue carpet. 3rd - 1970 SuperBee , blue bench seat - blue carpet. I don't care what the experts say, I'll bet everything I own,, all 3 were factory.
I also have a customers 1970 4 speed Roadrunner and he's owned the car for most of it's life and it's burnt orange int , buckets, no console, burnt orange carpet

Your color combo looks great but if you are going to have any serious judging done on the car, you may get docked on the carpet? None of the cars you owned were 4 speeds without a console so your references are not apples to apples. The 70 is not a good reference because you have a 69. If it was my car, I would go with the green. If you are trying to get it OE perfect, you will be subject to second guessing based on what everyone thinks they know. How many judged shows will you be doing where some judge will even know to question it? If you have documentation, that's all you need. If Paul suggested it, he may have been mistaking? If it's what you wanted, it's your car and it's all good! That's all I'm saying. The car and interior look fantastic anyway you look at it.

I appreciate your comments but first of all the car does not belong to GTX6970, as your post seems to indicate, but it could if he is interested in buying it. My build sheet calls for a H2G interior but I assume that doesn't include the carpet color? From a practicle standpoint why would a console car receive a different color carpet than a non-console car or even an automatic car with column shift? Seems like Chrysler would want the carpet to match the seat covers and door panels but then again common sense often times is left to us common folk. I trust Paul's judgement as his cars seem to win an awful lot of Gold.

This is all I could find. It's a copy from a Winged Warriors newsletter that was taken out of the 69 sales interior/exterior trim guide. I have seen this in an original guide. It's a small blue cloth binder. There is an asterisk next to the word in the lower table column marked "Carpets*" Below the table it explains "Black carpet only with 4 speed manual transmission". There is a clarification somewhere else that allows colored carpets when you have a 4 speed with console. Again, I am not being critical but with your concern about perfect hubcaps, I thought you'd want to know. Maybe they made an exception for green interiors? They should have? I had an F8 green 69 Hemi Bee with the two tone green bench seat but do not remember the carpet. It's owned by Joe S. in NY and was restored by Kohrs out of PA. I think it had a black carpet?

Oh trust me, I am very proud of the hard work both Troy and Paul put into my car. However, it upsets me greatly that Paul is going to take it out on a shake down run before I even have a chance to see it in it's completed stage! But then again he always delivers a car that doesn't need any tweeking. It has been a long time but the finished product will be well worth the wait but the long wait has been my fault.

Thank you for providing this information. I do see the * next to Carpets and the designation that 4 speed cars were to receive black carpet but I didn't see anything about the use of colors with the console. Interesting for sure. I will contact Sue with WW and see if she can provide some additional information. Thanks again for posting this.
