Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd post the dyno results of my 496-6 that Nick Wilson at Compuflow built for me. Right now all I can do is give the numbers as I won't get the dyno sheets or the build sheet from Nick until next week but he told me the motor made 735 hp max at 6900 rpm and torque was 633 lb-ft at 4000. I should note that they didn't start the dyno runs until 4000 rpm and the torque was decreasing at that point so the max torque was probably higher than the 633 but how much more we don't know.

I asked Nick to make 1 pull with my factory air cleaner in place (using a K & N element) and peak hp was only down 4 hp at 731 max.

The basics on my motor are:

-70 440 block w/Eagle crank and rods
-Indy aluminum SR heads ported by Nick
-11.5 CR
-Comp Cams roller cam
-Aluminum 6 pack manifold with a stage II
porting by Hughes
-Harland Sharp roller rockers
-my carbs were prepped by Dale Cubic at CFM
Carburetors and Dale was on hand at the dyno to do the tuning.

When I get the build and dyno sheets next week I can post some more information.

Thanks Nick and Dale!

That sounds like it is making good HP for the combo. What car is it going in ? A 70 Runner is my guess. Ron

You are correct, it's going in a 70 Road Runner with a 4 speed and a 4:10 Dana.

Just let me know what time would be good to swing by and drop off your bearing.

Very nice numbers...
Even if the car is all stock and heavy, get it to hook, and that thing will go easy 9's.

I new somebody was gonna ask and right now I can't say because I really don't know yet what Nick ended up going with. I know he was concerned with the manifold holding things back and he actually had gotten 2 different cams ground, 1 more mild (relatively speaking) and 1 more wild so I would rather find out for sure before I say...

On a side note, You are running an unfilled production block?? What were the sonic numbers?

Mike - my block has a Hughes main stud girdle and Nick added a small amount of hard block (about 1") and the head bolts were replaced with studs as well.

As far as the sonic numbers that's way beyond my knowledge I'd have to ask Nick but I remember when Gellner first did this motor back in the 90's as a 440 build the block was sonic checked and they told me it was good block to use.

Also I mistyped the displacement, its 493 cubes: its bored .030 over and has a 4.150 stroke.

Those really are very good numbers using a 2 plane 6 pack manifold.

Thanks Cab! Everyone was surprised by the rpm's and the overall numbers. Nick told me before they started the dyno testing that they thought this thing would max out at around 6200 rpm and when they made the first few pulls they stopped at 6300 but the hp was still climbing so Dale said lets run this thing all they way and see where it peaks. I have the dyno sheets now and if I can figure out how to post I will get them up but on the last run with the air cleaner assembly on the motor it peaked at 731.0 hp at 6900 rpm and at 7000 it dropped to 729.5 hp!

As far as CR it is 11.5 to 1 and I plan on mixing in a little race fuel which is what I did with my previous 440 which was at 11.7 to 1 and it seemed to run fine that way.
