I just bought a 65 Plymouth Belvedere 1 project car that I'm going to try to save.
The car came with a title and the title starts out with 3157 then the sequence number.
The tag on the door jam matches everything but the 31 is missing. There is only 8 digits on the vin tag.
On the fender tag it says the body is a R1 which is a V8 Belvedere 1. But again the title is saying it's a 31 which is a 6cyl Belvedere I. And only thing the vin number on the door jam says is it's a 1965 and it was built in St. Louis.

Any ideas on why this would be?

Thanks

Do you have any parts for a Belvedere lying around? I'm only 25-30 min. from Niles.

3157xxxxxx - decodes as
31 - Belvedere /6
5 - 1965
7 - St. Louis, MO assembly plant
xxxxxx - VIN sequence number

The tags were pre-stamped "from the back" with the last 8 digits of the VIN#, so there would only be one VIN# 57xxxxxx. They were later stamped with the first 2 digits "from the front" denoting the "CAR LINE".

Does the fender tag SO# match the core support stamping?
Title "typo" or one of the tags swapped from another car?

(Brand New?) or 45 years later the first two digits aren't always clear.

Here's a W1 1965 tag

Thanks for the explanation. I talked to Super Stock Racer a week ago and we were talking about the vin tag. I told him that it looked like there COULD be a 3 and a 1 in front of the rest of the vin but it wasn't clear. That's when he told me to strip the paint off the vin tag... the numbers are their, and he was right. (what threw me off was the last 8 numbers were raised) I didn't realize that the first two digits were stamped into the tag.
So it's all their.

Again thanks for the help.
