Had the PIG out last Saturday Night @ the Quick 32 Arizonas Fastest Street Car Event @ Speedworld..

Anyway, finally got it down the track without an oil leak, trans leak, regulator going wild, or broken converter..

Ran the car all out @ 8:00 pm and the DA was about 3800'..
Went 9.15 @ 148.75 with a 1.30 60'
The high chip was set @ 7500 rpm. It was against it for 150'-200' says Billy D. EGT was 1270*
Shifted @ 6500.. Sounded like a 1 speed..Never heard it shift..

Next Run 9.08 @ 148.84 With 1.298 60'.. Same as first run.. Against the chip forever. EGT proves it.. went down to 1215*.. Shifted @ 6800.. Barely heard it change noise on gear change..

Another Run went 9.011 @ 148.94. 1.289 60'..
Didn't change anything.. Just the DA went down to 3000' by then.. The EGT was even lower 1170*

We also made a run on the T-Stop and went 10.82 @ 146 with a DA of 3800'... The EGT on that run was 1370*... So I know it wasn't against the chip..

I'm figuring the converter slippage @ 11.5%-12%

What I'm curious about is, can you tighten up a converters lock up and still have a high stall point? I would like it to stall @ 6200 in this air and still have 6%-7% slippage.. I think it is stalling @ 6700+ right now.

I think you have heard me say this before. My 8" ATI stalls at 6200 and has 3% slip. Mine is WAY tight for all out runs but works perfect on the throttle stop. Keep after it you guys are chipping away it.

SOME USE JOHN DEERE HYDRAULIC FLUID

it tightens it up a few hundred

I've used hydraulic fluid for the same thing and it does work.

Chris,

Hydralic fluid will tighten convertor up about 200rpm. Easier than pulling trans out. If that makes it run faster you will then know the convertor is too loose. Data logging in best bet. If you do not have a full replay tach or a mega box than the fluid is your next easy change

Nice Vid!

Definitely hearing it shift and didn't sound like it was on the chip at the other end.

What gear is in the glide?

Yep same setup here only 6000 same percentage with the 8" ATI Treemaster....also tight off the stop

Hard to tell in the vid, but 11% could use improvement

Glide has 1.76 ..

You can't hear a Crane ignition like you can an MSD, as Crane drops cylinders to control rpm.

Billy says he can definitely hear it in the car though.

That pass he shifted @ 7000, so you can hear it.

Wallace and other calculators show 11.7% to 11.8% slippage..

148.94 mph
7500 rpm
4.30 gear
102.25 circumference

The bars are too low and the car is porpoising..

I need to get the 60' down to 440Jims 1.22..

These are the first real runs off the stop, so were in learning mode here..

Ok.....I missed what kind of ignition you had.

I was thinking I saw some tire unloading as I was trying to slow the vid down, but its a little grainy and dark for that. Theres def. some et in the 60' as its lifting and sitting right back down.

Looks great and once sorted is gonna be a runner!

As it looks now, it should be solidly in the 8's.

http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-alti...rect+ET+and+MPH

Density Altitude: 3025 feet above sea level

1/4 mile ET: 9.011 seconds

1/4 mile trap speed: 148.94 MPH

Stock and Mildly Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
8.684 @ 154.667 MPH

Extensively Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
8.781 @ 152.943 MPH

Extensively Modified Supercharged and Turbocharged Engines
8.883 @ 151.077 MPH

The best part of all is that after the wreck and rebuild, Billy says it's like driving your couch on the top end.. So I guess we done good..

Just for info, here is a comparison of four different runs with two different converters and different rear gears. Stall speed is pretty much the same on all runs as was DA approximately, however coupling agressiveness is different, the more efficient convertor in this situation is the slower choice but has its advantages depending what you're wanting. Open attachment and view full screen.

Hook up the tach wire in the delay box. Will show you exactly what RPM you are crossing at, or maybe you did that already. I fou nd it very useful when sorting my heap out.

Oh yeah...ATI......ATI.....ATI

BTW I agree that the most efficient convertor is not necessarily the fastest. My car is a full two tenths quicker with a horribly inneficcient converter that slips 21%. It puts a ton of heat in the trans but the car is clearly faster when it is in ther. In my case the 6200 stall is killing me, that is a good deal below torque peak for me.
