hello everyone, i have a 78 440 and 727 from a motorhome with a ebrake on the end going in a 48 dodge. do i have to tear the whole trans down to change the tail housing and shaft? i thought about having a drive shaft made with a slip joint and running as is. any thoughts? thanks in advance

Yes, the trans must be completely disassembled...the tailshaft is the last part to come out.

The slip-joint driveshaft is a viable alternative but disassembling the trans will give you an idea of its condition.

thanks for the reply, i am trying to get by the cheapest, i would have to pay someone to do the trans, and if they are taking it apart may as well have a kit put in, i think i will price the drive shaft, see which one is the lowest cost,

Why not just leave it alone? Will the e-brake hurt anything? Heck, it might make your car safer!
