Have a pair of rear slicks that are 2 years old but never turned a tire. They are still soft but show some weather checks in the sidewalls. If it matters, they are M/T Drag ET's. They are on a mid 11 second A body. Should I use them for time trials? I think they would pass tech. They are mounted on rims, hold air and do not use tubes.

A few years ago I bought a set of Good Years that did the same thing, I showed them to a Good year rep and he said run them, I did till there was no more depth holes That took a couple of years, they still look the same today. Check with a M/T dealer.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Run them. I bought a set of MT last year that were about 4 years old and I had no problems with them. The outside of the side wall have very little to do with strength. It's the liner and the plys in the side wall that does the work, outter rubber is dressing.
