I'm getting ready to put the Duster motor back together and am keeping the stock exhaust manifolds. Just wondering what type of coating etc.. you have used to make yours look nice and STAY nice- Thanks in advance for any responses, Ron

I have good luck with the eastwood satinless coating. Do not try to brush it on as it will streak. Otherwise no issues and lasts for years

I had mine ceramic coated in a cast iron finish. Looked excellent and will last nearly forever.

Wasn't that expensive in the grand scheme of things either....

just use a foam brush and youre set! be sure to blast them real good first and do not touch them with your bare skin after cleaning.

Blasted mine, painted them with some kind of hi-temp stuff guaranteed to last forever. They lasted about 15 minutes and are now all rusty, but I don't care enough to be that concerned about them in my car.

I have used it 2 or 3 times and followed the directions on the can. Within 3 months they all were rusting. :-(

I have done them a few difference ways.

1. Eastwoods paint: Blasted them to bare cast and brushed on with a foam brush to prevent streaks and to make sure I got all the little areas painted. They looked great for about 5 years then started to turn.

2. Used Cast Coat Iron Duplicolor high temp paint. I blasted to bare metal then heated the manifolds with a propane torch and sprayed the paint on and let it cook, did this process for 5 coats. They looked great and lasted about 4 years or so with a moderate amount of driving.

3. Ceramic Coating: Cast Iron color, seems to last forever and its chip resistant. A little more expensive but the only way I will go from now on, under hood temps are lower to and they cool much quicker after shutdown. A lot of local shops can do this for you, it is much cheaper if you prep them first.

BTW, the Truck is doing great, cant wait to see pics of the Duster.

Good Luck.

A member here had a picture of his 340 manifolds on the front page of a coating company's site. He was happy with the work; who was that?

Shannon- Good to hear from you- Glad the truck is doing good. I'm sure the price of diesel has been a little strain. Anyway, What companies do ceramic coating? Is that something a powder coater can do ?

JetHot Coating is what I use. Good stuff that will never rust, and helps keep your engine cool from the polishing they do on the inside of the manifold.

I used a guy down in S.C. for the coating, I'll see if I can find his number. There is a guy in Harrodsburg that started doing it too but I haven't heard any results from him; he has done powder coating for me in the past and does an excellent job at that. I may try him on the next car.

Been using the Neon most of the time, but I fire the Dually up on weekends and drive to work on occasion. This truck gets as many thumbs up at times that the 65 Plymouth does. The diesel fuel and insurance makes for a nice write off on the business anyway, so it isn't too bad.

To those of you that have had them ceramic coated - What have you done about your heat riser? I would assume that this cannot be coated- Should I mask it off ??

The problem, if you care to call it that? is color availability on ceramic coating, most places only do, cast or polished. a few do white. I'd do flat black header paint on the risers, and cook it on the BBQ to get as good a finish as possible.
