so i want to try and put a guinness handle from a tap on my shifter instead of the ball. My trans is a 68 4 speed. Does anyone know what size fitting is on the end of the shifter.

Depends on the shifter,3/8 16 coarse or 3/8 24 fine you could have either one and thats just stock style threaded shifters. Then you have aftermarket shifters with 1/2"for older Mr.Gasket models or 7/16"for Long shifters what do you have?

i looked and its coarse so its probably 3/8-16. its the original hurst shifter. Most of the handles i have found are 11" tall so it will be a bit high but i think it will be cool looking.

Here is what i ordered. The guinness handles are different from others because they arent threaded on the bottom the have a slot for the tap to slide in and then a pin holds them together. Ill just have to figure out away to get a female fitting to attach to the handle. this is a pic of the one i bought. i think its a good shape for a shifter.
