I am fed up with my current set-up...which appears to be a stock throttle cable, a BME throttle bracket, and an unknown kickdown cable (the linkage wasn't there when I purchased the truck). It's a very convoluted set-up that's difficult to work with.

btw, this is a 79 Lil' red truck.

I've got it now where it works okay...but throttle pressure, feel, smoothness is no where near what I'd expect/desire...plus, it's simply a pain to get the kick-down properly adjusted.

The lockar set up looks pretty clean by comparison...anyone have good/bad luck with em?

tia,
chris

If you really want something that is easy to install, appropriate for your engine/transmission, and is super easy to adjust, go with the Bouchillon Performance kit. I got mine today, took an hour to install, and am still in the process of adjusting it, but it's super easy to do.

I am running the Lokar kickdown and a similar (meaning cheap knockoff eBay
) throttle cable on my 72 Challenger. I am using a throttle bracket like this eBy Again

I really like the setup. It looks and works great. Sorry, but I don't have any pics.

His truck already has the Bouchillon setup. At the time I trusted a shop to do the work on the install for me. Its kind of a pain and sensitive to adjust at first but, I felt I got the shift points right but, he'll want something different.

At WOT his truck normally would shift 1 to 2nd at 50 mph and 2nd to 3rd at 70 mph. It does have an agressive shift kit from a previous owner and it will always normally chirp the tires on 1st to 2nd shift.

He talked about smoothness and such to be quite honest that transmission has never been soft on shifts even when I purchased the truck with the with the original setup.

The only thing I never messed with on the transmission was the bands so perhaps the bands may need adjusting. Maybe the line pressure is turned up. Normal shifts for the truck 1st to 2nd 15 to 20 mph and 2nd to 3rd at 30 to 35 mph from what I recall and was the same way with the factory 360 4bbl. It always shifted hard but, I thought it was because it has an agressive shift kit and I got used to it. The transmission mount has been replaced too with a new one.

He can also run Lokar or XV Motorsports setup. I just went with the Bouchillon setup because I heard great things and besides Mancini Racing sells the same setup. I'll admit it took many tries to get it right for myself but, once I had it I was happy with it. Anyways just my

I bought a '82 D150 that had a Lokar throttle cable on it. It had several 'return to idle' problems that were caused by the Lokar cable hanging up, the outer sleeve had been worn out by the cable. While the Lokar throttle cable may be fine when new, they aren't durable. I replaced it with a OEM cable of proper length, it's now good for another 100K or more miles.

The Lokar kickdown cable may last longer since it doesn't have as much load as the throttle cable has, but the mounting brackets are flimsy.
I went with the Bouchillon KD cable for my '68 Valiant. It is a solid and durable set up.
Another plus the Bouchillon lever ratios are correct for a Mopar while the Lokar will be dependant on where the throttle cable is placed on the carb's throttle arm.

Bouchillon ++

After tearing my hair out trying to get the stock kickdown lever to work right (it's never worked well since I went from my 318 to a 340), I got the Bouchillon. What a difference! A great piece, although a little more expensive. It's worth it though - I think it uses a GM truck cable which you can find at any auto parts store.

I've had my Lokar setup now for several years. Works just fine today as it did when I first installed it. Many problems come from not installing is correctly. Shifts are right where I like them. Lokar is a nice clean look too.

I had installed a Lokar on my SLant 6. The problem is they give you a fiddly piece of sheet metal to act as a mount. I had to custom make my own bracketry and return spring. It wasn't difficult, never had done one before. I had set it up for hard shift points where the slant would rev up and chirp tires going into second.

I wanted to go with an easier setup this time around. I have a Duad Quad setup going on my 440, I bought the Bouchillion kit, complete with the throttle bracket and it all mounts together. its a nice clean setup that makes the engine bay look a little modern, but the average person won't know on mine because the whole setup is covered by a six-pack air-cleaner....

Lokars instructions were pretty vague, again with thin gauge sheet metal brackets. The BPE kit comes with instructions on how to install it with Holleys and Carters.

I'll let you know better when I install it

I use the Lokar throttle cable but no kickdown as I run a manual valve body. But the cable has worked perfect for the four years it has been on my 63. Ron

I have both kits in my shop, but have not tried either one of them as yet...so the following comments are drawn from observation only.

The Bouchillon kit is a better design in terms of geometry, and the kit comes with a ton of stuff for adapting it to a variety of different applications. This is one of the reasons it's cost so much more than some of the others.

The Lokar kit is a nice clean setup for sure, but the attachment point at the transmission (at least per manufactures instruction) lends itself to some rather poor geometry which could lead to issues in my opinion. I would not hesistate to use the Lokar kit, but I will probably make a new bracket to change the geometry down at the trans and add a return spring as well.
