I'm relocating my battery to the trunk and putting in a kill switch. I'm planning on putting the switch where the trunk lock is, so need some ideas on how to make a trunk release. Maybe something with a pull handle behind the bumper or something. I seem to remember reading a thread a long time ago where someone was doing something similar, but can't find that one anymore.
Thanks,
Dave

Find a hood latch & cable / handle set up from a newer model. The last one I scored was in a very rusty 1974 Charger.

The cable might be long enough to run to the back seat area of your car so no one can get to it when your doors are locked too.

I have a deck-lid release for a Karmann Ghia laying around somewhere that would probably reach to the back seat. It's supposed to go to the Ghia though if I ever get back to working on it again. It's been sitting as a basket case for about 6 years now.

Tons of late model cars in the pick-a-parts with remote hood latches and cables...might be something you could cobble up to work ok

I bought a hood latch for a '75 Dart from a member. Got it today, and it's an exact fit for a '74 Duster trunk. I thought I would at least have to drill holes or something, but it bolts right in and the latch lines right up. Only problem is the cable is too short to go to the dash or even the front seat. It could be mounted on the package tray, or maybe reach to the floor board a the front of the back seat.

You could run the cable through the floor of the trunk and mount the handle sort of up behind the rear bumper maybe if you wanted to be able to get into the trunk without going inside the car

Why not install a electric one from a Diplomat or Cordoba? Make a terminal provision to your rear package tray (or wherever you want easy access) on it have it act as a bypass switch for when your battery goes dead. (- / +) and then all you have to do is give it a momentary 12 volts and it will disengage the trunk lock and you can charge your battery

That's where I was originally planning on running it. I'm not ruling it out yet. I'm going to mess with it some tonight, didn't really get a chance to last night

My 72 Imperial has a vacuum-operated trunk release button in the glove box.
You could go that route - I'm sure it just needs a vacuum canister.

If his battery goes dead, how does he get into the trunk without starting the engine to make vacuum ?

I had a vacuum set-up on my previous challenger, the canister will hold enough vacuum for several openings without the engine running.

Unless you didnt start the car for 2 weeks, the vacuum eventually goes bye bye.

Plasma cutter?
Chain Saw?

Good point. Have a secondary, cable lever that exits near the rear seat (someone mentioned earlier), or even just hidden behind the seat - one that might not be so easy to get to, but there for emergencies?

The 68 Imperial I drove for 10 years had a vacuum release, it would hold vacuum for months on end.

I used an elec trunk release off of an 85 Fifth Ave on my 67 Dart, worked great. I mounted the switch next to the headlight switch so I could get to it without having to open the door to get to it.
