whats up guys, i got a few questions about my 440, and a set of eddy heads i can pick up for dirt cheap

first off, is there a way with out cc'ing the heads to know if i have the 84cc, or 88cc? is there like a number on them to go by?

also, i need help finding a set of pistons to run.

im looking to get up around 10:1 - 11:1. somewhere in there. i was thinking about some forged speedpro's, or some hyperutetic kb's. any suggestions there?

im waiting to find out if they are still available or not. ill let you guys know once i find out, if they are already gone, then i will be freshening up a set of 906's, and i would still need some help finding the right pistons to run. if you need some more info, just let me know!

If they are indeed the 84cc heads then the speedpro L2295f .030 over, the piston .025 in the hole with the felpro 1009 gasket should yield approximately 11.5:1 compression. This is the combo we ran in the Duster the first 2 seasons.

If you go to edelbrocks website or summit racing and look up the heads and compare the part #'s that should tell you what cc they were originally.

well id like to keep the standard bore, im trying to do this without really visiting a machine shop.

and also, ive got a set of LY rods that are bushed for .990 pins if i remember correctly, and then ive got the 6pack rods that came out of the motor im building up. so ive got a couple choices for wrist pin sizes if that helps. but i would really like to find a set of pistons to work with the 4.320 bore.

/first the 88cc head is an open chamber head so it's pretty easy to tell which you have by looking at it.

As far as keeping it standard bore unless the motor is VERY LOW mileage and the bores are perfect you'll be hard pressed to keep it at standard bore. Next is finding standard bore pistons, used, yes, new not so easy if at all .

g
Good luck .

well im going to measure the bore taper and everything at work since my motor's here and all and weve got the tools to do so. if its in good shape, im going to just keep it standard bore. this is a low buck, budget build guys...

Yup standard bore pistons are rare to be sitting on the shelf. I was lucky enough to have a good 340 block from a 72 car that I wrecked in 77. One of my other 340s cracked a cyl wall so I pulled this block out to use and it was a 45K mile motor which sat from 1977 to 2007. I had to order some KB 243 pistons in standard bore. It took about a month to get them.

Most everything KB-Silvolite makes is offered in std. bore. Speedpro's are also offered in std.

well the silvolite's are cast as far as i know, id like a set of forged or hyperutetic pistons for it.

any insight in which std bore speedpro's or kb's would put me at my desired comp. ratio?

60149 and 60189 are 88cc, according to Edelbrock's web site.

KB237's if you're getting the closed chambered heads. You'll want a domed piston if you're doing an open chamber head.

As for the bore thing, a machine shop can bore/hone a block for pretty cheap, then you don't have to worry about bore taper, ridge at the top of the cylinder catching the rings because you're running a different piston now, etc. Unless the motor has seen extremely low miles since the last bore job or you're going to reuse the pistons you have, I would bite the bullet and get it bored. You will not regret it.
