My super power shot is several years old and I understand that Monte Smith upgraded the tune-ups for NOS? I am still using the old recomended tuneups that have the jetting a little rich. Does anyone have the newest charts/website or other info I could use to get better results? Thanks Mike
As stated call Monte.
BTW, they arent a "little" rich, but pig frickin fat. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh2.gif)

5:1 stoichiometric is a good place to start. Cant change organic chemistry.

Here's the link to the Big Shot info..... Holley website..................
I've been doing some searching and not all of the instructions have the new tuneups.........The ones that say "additional instructions" are the ones that do have them......... ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/1343795-scratchchin.gif)
In a nutshell, Monte will tell you that you need at least a 10 jet spread as a starting point with 6LBS of flowing fuel pressure............BUT the timing has to be back farther than the old 2* per 50HP rule.......Just use the timing chart in the link I'd posted above...... Then just keep leaning it out until trap speed doesn't pick up anymore........Then put timing into it 1* degree at a time until trap speed stops gaining......... That's it.......Then if you're going to run a second stage, start out even leaner than what the 1st tune up ended up at.....

Why so rich??? Why not right where it made peak power on the dyno, naturally aspirated? ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wiink.gif)

"you need at least a 10 jet spread as a starting point " Big squeeze-Thanks for the link! Do you mean 10 higher NO2 than the fuel just to start??? ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eeek.gif) Thanks Mike

Yes, higher on the nitrous........ ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)

I have a Nitrous Works N.O.S kit 200 shot, could I use N.O.S Brand tune-up info with N.W Brand? Would there be a difference? Thanks Matt
It's basically all the same......Everyone over rocketeers nitrous.......You've got to look at nitrous as if it's just air.......Most people are familiar with O2 sensors, so I like to use them to discuss nitrous......If somebody REALLY understands WHY a motor makes max HP at a certain A/F, then nitrous is EASY.......... In a nutshell, different motors make max power at different A/F numbers because of how effeceint the intake manifold is and the air speed going through it and the intake runners......The faster the air speed, AND the better the intake is at distributing an equal amount of A/F to each cylinder, the leaner the A/F will be.........
If your motor makes max power, naturally aspirated at 12.5 to 1 A/F, you can go right to that number on the bottle, AND THEN GO LEANER from there because when the bottle is on, what happens to the air speed? It's even faster than when naturally aspirated so there's less fuel fallout......so that's why you can go leaner.......BUT, when you start getting your A/F close, the timing has to be extremely conservative (just as the NOS charts recommend as starting points)
O2 sensors are great but they're just a tool and will only take you so far so reading plugs is really important........Once you start spraying over 200HP, it's time to start reading plugs every pass until you get your tunes figured out for different weather conditions........

That is not rich, and that is with nitrous and gas in a flowed system. You can go leaner from there.
Mike
I was trying to be funny......You, obviously, mean 5 to 1 Nitrous/Fuel ratio.....That's not the number you'd look for when reading an O2 sensor......so how's the average Joe (like the OP asking a jetting question) supposed to figure that, without having someone like Monte flow it and give them flow numbers? Point is, they can't, so why even mention N/F ratios at all? ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beer.gif)
