I recently had our local community college automotive students do some work to my '83 Ramcharger and one of the things they did was to tighten the steering gear box. This was done at the same time they installed a steering stabilizer shock absorber type gizmo. There is a very noticeable difference in the old truck now, but I was wondering if it was possible that they may have tightened the gear box too much.

I don't feel any binding and in fact am quite pleased with how the RC tracks going down the road. No wander and when I let go of the steering wheel it doesn't pull to either side.

However since two changes were made at the same time and it feels so different, I can't help but feel that maybe these kids may have possibly overtightened the gear box.

Or am I just being a little paranoid?

If after you make a turn the steering wheel centers with no force needed then it's adjusted right.

Does the steering return to center on it's own or do you physically have to return it to center ?

No, haven't noticed any difference with the steering wheel returning back to center after I turn a corner. Got my curiosity up though. Better go for a drive around the block.

The steering just seems too good to be true.
