On a six pack air cleaner where the carb studs go through, there is an extra hole in the brackets. Are these there for any reason? they are right over the bowl vents on the carbs.

Thanks for any insight.

There was nothing destined for the other opening in the bridge.
I think they were designed that way so that no matter which way you turned it when spowelding it on to the base, you couldn't go wrong for correct carburator stud alignment.
Lots of summer students working at Fram in those years in peak periods.
Some were not well versed in reading the prints, as evident by the batch of adapter rings escaping with the nuts welded on the top.

I'm sure it's not why they are there but they line up perfectly with the bowl vent. So if you are are a drag racer and when you leave the line and your car bogs it can be from fuel sloshing out of the vent. The cure is to pound some 5/16 line down in the vent and at that point you are glad those extra diamonds are there
