We finally got the car to the track Sunday and ran the Test lane at Woodburn Dragstrip.
After all the glitches getting this thing back together it was nice to actually get it down the track.
First, for everybody that was trying to help with advice, thanks.
The starter issue is still there. I did get the motor to crank once I got my new Ultra Torque Powermaster starter to fit the motor. That took two days of cutting and grinding on the block and starter.
The bad news is that it will still try to kick back once in a while. I set the timing at 30 (locked, no mechanical advance or retard) and spin the starter before turning on the ignition. Guess I'll just need to practice to get the correct technique.
The good news is that the solenoid and all the wires are nowhere near the motor now, so the battery wire stud to block clearance issue is completely eliminated.
Now we're fighting a bad "miss" going down the track. All my ignition components are the same parts we had on it at the end of last season when it was running perfect. Well, two exceptions. I welded the advance mechanism in the dizzy to lock it out. The only other difference is the MSD timing computer I added to try to get a start retard, which didn't work.

Some time this week I'm gonna un hook the timing computer and go back to just the 7AL ignition box.
Funny thing is, when I put the car on stands and did a "stall check" at the end of the day it came right up on the converter, crisp and clean, no miss.
The "miss" is actually more like a lean missfire. The old "shooting ducks" situation. I had my 1050 Dominator reworked by Gary Stinnett over the winter and I'm wondering if he could have missed the tune up?
Speaking of coming up on the converter, that's another hurdle. With my Indy heads last year it stalled at 5700. Well, I knew that the B1s would make some more power and increase the stall a little. Now it's stalling at 6400.

Not wanting to hurt the "new motor" I had the shift point set at 6400 so both my passes for the day ended up being in high gear as soon as I let go of the button.

Didn't really notice that on the first pass cause of everything else I was watching but by the second pass I'd had enough time to collect my wits and realized my bonehead mistake when the nose dropped, not 20 feet out.

Because of the "miss" and running both passes at part throttle and in high gear I didn't get any good ETs. First was a 9.3 something and second was a 9.2 something.
The first pass MPH was respectable, 155.73 but that's about all the good news, except it was still running at the end of the day so I got to drive it in the trailer.
