Looks like a great starting point, you plan on keeping the flathead 6 as well? The trucks were called pilot house because the glass in the cab made the cabs look like the pilot house on large river tugs, paddle wheel boats, and ocean going boats. I believe www.rustyhope.com has a a disc brake conversion for the beam axle, contact him and see. I've used his kits on a few old Mopars. I have a 50 (with a 52 nose I believe) that is mounted on an 80 Dodge 4x4 chassis. Mine has a 360 4v 727, full time 4x4, with a 9 1/4" sure grip and a dana 44 front both with 3:55 gears. Gene

I doubt a flathead 6 could handle a single quad, let alone dual quads. The dual intake mentioned is a pair of one barrel carbs on a welded together manifold. The split exhaust is a factory manifold split in two and capped off, and has another exhaust outlet welded to the end without an outlet. This makes it possible to have dual exhaust. Built up, these motors could make about 140-150 horse power, factory stock, the "big" flathead 6 (251 ci) produced in 58 had a factory rating of 125 hp. That was the highest factory rated flathead 6. The 50 & 51 versions were considerable smaller @ 216 ci and rated @ 95 hp.
These trucks do make nice street rods. Pictured is my 54. It had a 360, 727, 8 3/4 with 3:23 gears. we drove it over 40,000 miles in 5 summers. One of the few hot rods I'd take back, but it would be just as easy to build another.
