My 1968 Plymouth GTX is coded Z8 on the fender tag. I checked a few different sites on the net and some say it means 'Special Paint' and other say it is the code for 'Performance Hood Treatment'. I kind of took it as the "Z" codes are for special paint markings and the specific Z8 code is for the performance hood treatment? Anyways what does the 1968 GTX performance hood treatment look like? Is it the blacked out hood scoop area or the dual stripes like the 1969 models?

OK cool, I figured that was a pretty good guess on my part. Thanks for setting me & the record straight.

Frank thanks for the awesome tag decoding! Only error was being a 4-speed car the rear end was originally a Dana so the gear was 3.54:1 instead of 3.55:1.
Thanks for the great picture A12.
My next question is... How much 'outline' surrounds the "scoop"?

Dan, Yep, I missed that. 3:54 for the Dana Here's some info from a member here 68jim: Quote:
These numbers are measured off an original 68 Road Runner with the Performance Hood Treatment option. The rear of the blackout starts at 2" from the back of the hood as measured from the middle. The forward "peak" of the blackout will measure 32.25" from the same rear of the hood reference. I have measured a few different hoods while researching my 68 Runner and the numbers only vary about 1/8". The scoops get painted black and underneath the scoops they had the paint line split across the outer holes.
Hope this helps.
Frank

Thanks again Frank! If you do not mind I will use that diagram you made of my fender tag on my project thread on another forum I freguently use to show my build ups. I am new to Plymouth B-bodies so please forgive me but I do not follow this line: Quote:
The scoops get painted black and underneath the scoops they had the paint line split across the outer holes.
Are you talking about the split from the black topside and the body color underside? What outer holes?

No problem using the diagram I sent you. Just correct the 3:55 ratio to 3:54 LOL. Let me know the web site I believe the split line he's talking about is the underhood paint on the scoops. I'm not sure about that though. You can contact jim68 direct via the Moparts baord and ask him for clarification. I was never that concerned about the 100% resto. I was more concerned about the exterior of the hood. I'll send you some photo's via your e-mail that I have. Should be sometime tomorrow. Frank

OK, cool.
This car will not get restored that well either. I just like nice drivers. My cars tend to rack up a lot of miles on them.
