How much have you guys picked up using the low ratio gear set? , 4400lb 68 charger , best yet has been a 10.01 @ 139.6 mph , sheered the splines off the front gear set on saturday @ Santa Pod , so have decided to go for steel gear set , are these much noisier than the alu? , the one going in is a straight cut set.

Been short shifting using the three on the tree (5600rpm) so also gonna go reverse pattern while this is out the motor , just thinking this heavy ole elephant might pick up with the above modification , should be able to shift around 7k with the RPVB , best 60ft has been around 1.5 with 4.10 rear gear , 29" tyre , any thoughts?

TIA

Once you start making big HP, the low gearset can work against you. With your weight and that MPH, I will say you are making big HP.

If you are dead hooking it might help though. Anything else and your traction problems will get worse. Or maybe you will have trouble with too much of a wheelstand. Less starting line ratio is more consistent/reliable 60 foot and more controllable wheelie.

I took the low gearset out of my Demon and I liked it better. Did'nt really slow the car down much if at all.

Thanks , will go with the gear set hoping to better the 60fts , this thing is like driving Miss Daisey , slow off the line but a bat out of hell when it rpms above 6k , really need to fit that reverse pattern.

Cope and Southlands both recommended not to do it when I broke my front planetary. I do have traction problems though.

Thanks Tig , i thought the weak link was the alu gear set? , so going with a steel gear i though i'd kill two birds with one stone & go the low gear route.

That was exactly my thinking, 'cept track has to be really good for the car to hook. The low gearset would have just made things worse, especially at RWYB days since traction is never as good as the race weekends.
If you try it and go faster I may have to rethink though
PS we ended up with a five pinion steel one and some other tasty bits too
