I was wondering how much power can be made with a after market headed magnum engine with a hydralic roller cam. Maybe around 11-1 compression with over 600 lift cam.I was wondering how much potential my 360 magnum had or do I need to build a LA small block.

We have made 400 HP to the wheels on a N/A magnum 360 with ported R/T on it and DFI in control of the fuel injection.
best so far 8.53 @ 158.59 MPH 60'1.240

What did the R/T heads flow? Is that about 500 hp at the flywheel? I think on Hughes Engines web sight they say you can make up to 650 hp with there cnc ported Eldebrock RPM magnum heads. Has anybody made this kind of power? Oh ya I have a holley 950 on my crate motor.

A set of heavily ported RHS magnums can make enough power to split a factory block witch by the way is the same strength as a LA block.
The EQ can make a bunch of power probably 600 in a max effort deal and same thing with the eddy magnum. A stock head can be made to flow 270 cfm witch can support 540 or so HP. The super serious 600 hp deals are about the max with out moveing the PR pinch like a W2.

One of the engine masters builds on a eddy headed magnum 408 with 236/242 cam and 580 lift hyd roller,11.5 compression made around 550 HP. I ran a 10 with mine with 9.34 compression. I made a bunch of changes and am hoping for 10.60-70s. Hughes made 600 with their 426 Magnum. Tom

I am currently running a stock rebuild 72 360 2bbl short block cast dished pistons and all with ported factory 99 durango magnums with the GM V6 valve springs, an M1 single plane and a comp XE268 cam and it pulls very hard up to about 6000 and I have had it to 6500 but don't feel like it's pullin any harder than if I just shift. I am fixing to try swaping out the 625 carter for a 750 carter.

whats the truck weigh and what suspension, just curious it runs good. give us some info and yea magnums can make power there are alot of parts for them look on hughes.
My D-50 weights 3000 lbs with me in it ,It has Caltrack bars with 315/60 15 M/T Drag Radials. I was interested in the RPM heads that were on Hughes Engines web site. It has a 360/380 hp crate motor in it,I was wondering how much the RPM heads would help.

Have you given on the plans to build a big c.i. LA motor?
No I have not gave up on building a stroker L.A. motor, I am just trying to decide if I should build a Magnum or a L.A. small block.I was hoping for some advice from some members that have built both of these engines.

Rick Eherenberg's "rule of thumb" was max 500 HP on a stock small block or the cylinders are likley to split. Magnum and LA are about the same. The potential of aftermarket heads is higher so the limiting factor is the block. More than 500 HP or so needs an aftermarket block to be reliable. I'm sure some folks have gone above this. Do you feel lucky?
