I bought a set of bogarts used and they have rubber valve stems. My question is I thought to run at a NHRA track you needed the metal valve stems, is this still true? I know these wheels went 10.69 @ 133mph with no problems but I don't know if it was a IHRA track or NHRA. I plan on running at a NHRA track. Thanks

/w what he said! Metal stems needed at 11.99 2010 NHRA 5:1 TIRES Tires will be visually checked for condition, pressure, etc. and must be considered free of defects by the technical inspector prior to any run. All street tires must have a minimum of 1/16-inch tread depth. Temporary spares, space saver spares, farm implement or trailer tires prohibited. Metal, screw-in valve stems mandatory in tubeless tires, front and rear, on vehicles running 11.99 or quicker.

Okay, real stupid question here... "Metal, screw-in valve stems" I've seen plenty of metal stems, but they all seemed to be the nut and rubber washer style. They don't "screw-in" to the wheel. Am I mis-reading?

RodStRace - no such thing as a stupid question!
The valve stem you are referring to are the proper ones - I suppose it would be more correct to specify "bolt-on" or "screw-on". But in effect they need to have a metal body and mechanical attachment.
The reasoning for the metal valve is to reduce the chances of something breaking the valve stem loose (or dry-rotting off). I remember back in the days of being a tire/battery guy, we used to knock the old rubber ones out with a single whack from the side rather than trying to pull them out. A little side pressure cuts'em right off!
Pro6pakRR - current wording would indicate otherwise.

what's it say about tube's?
I found nothing mentioning anything about tubes in all of ET (pro, super pro, sportsman), Stock/Super Stock, S/G, or general regs.
The above quoted 5.1 tire reg was pasted in its entirety from the general regs.
