Went to change the plugs on the ram this weekend 130k (looks like it may have been for the 1st time ever)

Anyway #5 plug turned about 3/4 turn and started to bind tough... turned it back in and moved on.
The other 7 all changed out fine... be it some of the rustiest plugs I've ever pulled.

SO I'm looking for any tricks or thoughts prior to giving it another go.
WD-40 for a week, try it with engine HOT, or Cold...(it was "warm", when I changed them)
Or just leave it

I've read on here b4 of guys snapping them off... I don't want to do that.
Right now it's running, much better too, so I'm even considering just leaving it as is.
7 new is still better than all old... pig gets 11mpg all day every day, doesn't matter how/where you drive it.

Any thoughts?

If you have any PB blaster that stuff works great, if not, i would loosen it were its safe, stuff some WD-40 down there, slowly work it back & forth untill it feels free enough, don't rush it though. On the new plugs, i would put a few drops of oil on them before installing.

Oil? I use antiseize. Especially with aluminum heads. The plug proabably has some deposits on the threads that are having trouble spinning out. I would do like they said- penetrating oil, back and forth slowly working the tight spot out. Hopefully your head is harder than your carbon deposit!

Good luck

And don't be shy with that penetrant, keep loading it in there as you go back and forth. That problem happens alot, usually on alum heads though.

I'll give that a go (likely not this week... I need it running)
Should be fun trying to squirt the wd-40 in those tubes they have around the plugs on this thing.

Exactly what is the purpose of those tin tubes around the plugs... collect dirt? Hemi envy?

I had a 98 with 290 K on it--they were very bad to crack heads--they still run just fine with the cracks but it allows coolant in and that rust the plug in place--once you get it out--replace it every few thou and use lots of anti goo. The plug may even have a green tint from the antifreeze--I broke mine off once..turn the engine over the engine compression will usually "blow" the left over ceremic out of the plug base--now you have a hole in the plug---get the rest good and hot with the torch--drive a square easy out in the hole ( piston down ok..) then as it cools it will come out with some muscle--after that change very often and you are good for many more miles--it sounds and looks rough as you do it--it ain't a pretty way to go but it is what the dealer and other mechanics do as you are in the waiting room--hey..mine was #7--a #5 would be way easier to get to...Good luck!

PB blaster and work the plug back and forth. the tube can be pulled out (it's a friction fit) with some penetrating oil and a pair of needle nose vice grips. they're heat shields to keep ex. manifold heat off the boots.
