I know the story about the original 70 cuda made into 71 cuda for the show and they Lemon Twist yellow didn't show well on film.

Question is how close is the color to EL5 Bahama yellow?

Any first hand accounts or opinions?

One of the guys in our club worked on the editing with the first color. They ended up using some school bus yellow. IIRC, the original color would like wash out or something. Had to re-shoot everything. I think this was about when things were starting to move from film to digital also. I remember him saying the video vs. film has some different color nuances. Or at least at that time.

I saw one of the cars when Julius did some work on them. But that was a long time ago. They were TV/movie cars...Looking good on TV and looking good in person are two different things.

The shop that painted all 4 convertibles for season #7 used "Caterpillar Yellow".

rumor - the picture Don Johnson saw that lead to the "YELLOW" HEMI 'Cudas for the show: The back cover of "American Muscle" - Otis Chandler's muscle car collection.

Notice how the '71 FY1 HEMI 'Cuda doesn't look "lemon twist" due to lighting & shadows.

Not even close to EL5, to much "tan". Here's an original paint "Bahama yellow" '71 GTX.

While we're on this, could anyone tell me the member who owns(owned?) this cuda?

He was kind enough to pm me the name of the painter/paint shop that mixed his EL5, and I accidently deleted the info

I watched them film in SF and I can say the car was like taxi/schoolbus yellow. So the cat yellow makes sense.

I was looking at the car up close while Don and Cheech were sitting in it waiting to leave. A lady walks up and says "Ohh isn't he better looking in person?" and I said "Huh? Ohh I don't care about him I was looking at the car" Don kinda looked over his shoulder and then they took off shortly after that.

You can't blame the lady for thinking that; After all, you were in San Francisco

Thanks for your input

Does anyone know who has the 440/automatic car these days? Was curious what exhaust it had, as that was the car that was used for sound sampling.

I saw a trailer full of them heading south on I-5 heading to Woodly Park for the Spring Fling one year and they were a pretty ugly color yellow. Not close to Bahama yellow IMO.
