has anyone installed a 545 fe trans in a challenger and how well did it fit, any difficulties? I'm considering installing one behind a Gen III hemi

The 545 transmission is huge. You would have to remake the crossmember and torsion bar mounts to fit that in a 1st gen Challenger.

You'd probably have better luck getting a hemi car transmission to fit. They use a much smaller trans than that 545 truck trans.

Its not an E body, but I've mounted one in my duster behind a 5.7 hemi. I had to widen the tunnel by about 5" and fabricate a mounting setup behind the stock one. The 545 is a large trans, but I think the benefits will far outweigh the extra effort in installing it, when I eventually get it on the road. If you are not afraid to do some surgery to the hump and mounts I'd say go for it.
