Its been awhile since ive updated this build but have been very busy and kasey is doing a GREAT JOB. It is a 318 that is now well on its way to a 390 stroker!!! The short block is done, waiting on head gaskets and a few other parts, eventually ill have kasey post stuff on here because he is way better than me at this, and he can fill in all the details, but cant wait for it to be done and get it on the road!!

What heads are you going to run? The Edelbrock heads are pretty nice for a 500 hp type build.

Also, if anyone else is going to start a 390 build, I have rods and pistons that came out of mine for sale in excellent shape with hardly any use. I needed turbo pistons and super strong rods.

Can't wait to hear more about this build, as I am contemplating a 318/390 for the new 64 Valiant project

Hard to tell with the glare from the flash but yeah it looks like the exhaust valve relief is on the wrong side.

Im buildint the engine, and I double checked everything and its just the glare. The pistons are ICON pistone, and they have a really polished piston head on them. No need to wory Vince, its ok,

And boy you guys are correct it really looks like its wrong in the picture. Amazing how the camera will do that. Ill double check again just to be safe.

He is running the eddy heads, hughes roller rockers, and a hughes flat hydraulic cam. Everything is going pretty smoothly, and the Hughes stuff is checking out pretty good. The machinist took quite a long time, but I dont blame him its racing season, and all the dirt cars are popping left and right. Its also time for planting and field work for me, so Im busy, but its coming along good.

I too think that #7 is in backwards....I dont think thats just the camera. The exhaust is on the inside of that piston.

from the pic it looks wrong to me too.....that means one on the other sides gotta be in the wrong hole too.

You can tell by the horizontal flat at bottom of the relief, the intake sides are higher on the slug

I almost went with a 390 but I got the deal on the MP 3.55 crank, my cars light so I traded cubes for 'R's

Well I knew if I had one off, I had too have 2 wrong. I did, and thans guys for the sharp eyes. Thats what ya get when you build engines during calving season. I put #8 in 7s hole, and #7 in 8s hole. At least I didnt have to take a spirolock out and rotate a piston, that would have been really anoying.

Im sure glad Vince posted that picture, but Im sure I would have found it when I checked piston to valve clearance, but this saved me a oil pan gasket, and some more grief.

You guys are truely great!!

I got the two swapped out, and the heads on it for him, oil pans sealed up, Im just waiting on a push rod set, and a cam key.
