should at least be a roller cam block, may have a slider cam
should have the #302 swirl port closed chamber heads
the rest is a basic 318 bottom
my 85 truck had the roller block and slider
I swaped to a lunati roller cam 60710 with comp 901-16 springs
got the roller lifters and valve gear from a 1990 318 engine and droped it all in with the heads still on mine
if you get a tbi engine it will have a short nose roller cam and no fuel pump
if you buy a retro roller cam get it with the long nose cam and use a mech fuel pump on it
truck should have a roller block, those came out in '85, but as scratchin' said, trucks didn't go roller cam until '88 with TBI. 2bbl M's got a roller cam in '85.
it should have 302 heads. I'm running a maggie top end on my '86 shortblock with the stock roller cam reground by bulletcams (259 adv, 208@.050, .506" lift with magnum 1.6 rockers, hughes 1110 springs), an eddie RPM air gap, eddie 600, and summit headers and am very pleased. on mine, the pistons were .055 in the hole. with the .028" thick Mr. gasket head gaskets, I have exactly 9:1 with the magnum heads. I now wish I would have decked the block .040 when I reringed it to get tight quench...
