Why would my 727 have an overlap on 1-2 manual shift? Shifts fine if left in drive and allowed to shift automaticly.

In manual low the rear band is applied, when you shift to 2nd the band must release and it's slow to release if the servo isn't modified....so the drag of the band as it's releasing causes overlap.

The band isn't applied when in Drive.

John how do you recomend modifying the servo? Do you think the shims to make it solid (or aftermarket solid servo)is a good idea?

The shims or solid servo don't help much without a stiffer spring, the combination of both the spring and rigid servo piston gives the best release possible.
