I have a 3.75" stroke crankshaft for my 383 stroker project and the crankshaft wont fit in the block. Im convinced that the crank was made improperly and is for a 440. all 8 counter weights hit below the cylinders. The crank sits about 1/8" above the main bearings. The distance from the main journal to the top of the counterweight is 2.47 inches. Does anyone have that distance as measured from a 440 crank?

Besides turning down the main journals to fit the B block, the counterweights need to be cut down to a diameter of 7.250". Your counterweights are still the original RB dimension.

this is a crank i bought in a 383/426 stroker kit. I know the crank is to big but the people i got the kit from are dragging their feet. I was just wondering if anyone had that measurement from an rb crank for a comparision

Send it back!! they goofed in the machine room. Don't let it become your problem.

Its the second crank i have had from them. The first one the rod journals werent round and this one wont fit in the block. The company said that instead of grninding down the counter weights to grind the parts of the block that its hitting. there customer service is probably the worst i have experienced so far. i had them balance both crankshafts and my machine shop rechecked the balance and they had to remove over 100 grams from the crankshaft. so i have eatin 600 dollars of machine shop charges for balancing and paid them to balance the stroker kit originally.

PLease post the name of the company to save the rest of us. I my view all goes back and I find another company. The extra machine work was your decision and not authorized by them, so its your baby.

Muscle motors is who i got the kit from. I would not recommend them to anyone. the customer service has been horrible and the quality of the parts they sell is just as bad. I wish i would have gone with 440 source now. This stroker kit i bought from them will cost me well over 3k by the time im done with it.

Please give me their name so I know who NOT to do business with!! You can notch the bores instead of cutting down the counterweights, it works and has been done many times before, but I would call it the wrong way to do things. Moreover, they most certainly should have forwarned you of this prior to taking your order!!

Personally, If they didn't finish the crankshaft properly, I'd post their names here & at every other board you can find with a big fat "BAD-GUY ALERT"

Its not a problem with the rod ends contacting the ends of the bores its the counterweights hitting the block. The crank shaft literaly will not fit into the mains. it hits with all 8 counterweights.

A few points . 1 st The thing that makes the 440 crank in the 400/383 block work so well is that the counterweights get cut down. It takes almost 4 lbs off the crank. Makes it rev much better. So to take the material out of the block weakening it is just plain crazy.
2nd dont let nmanufacturers off the hook on screw ups. yes we all do screw up and if they are having to many they will correct the problem or go out of biz. But a 383 stroker crank has to have the weights cut down and I believe Muscle motors sells there kits ready to install.
3rd 3 grand for a properly done stroker isnt much money. Nothing is free the cheaper you buy race parts the more work needed to make them fit or the less reliable they will be.
4th 440 sourse has had there issues also going from one cheap company to the next wont solve the problem. back to the start Hold the company responsible for their mistake. what ever it takes. Other wise they will keep throughing cheaper and cheaper stuff out there if there is no consiquence to themselves.Thats the American way man. Thats why we have Walmart, expensive gas and no manufacturing jobs.

My machine shop started laughing when they got the voice mail saying grind the areas of the block not the crank. My machinist is pretty convinced that the guy we have been dealing with, Eric, has never built a motor before. the only reason im pissed about having to spend the extra money is because they said their kit is ready to install. The kit was far from that. And its not 3 grand for the whole motor its 3 grand for the crap crankshaft, crap rods, bearings, rings and pistons. I dont know how muscle motors stays in business. It amazes me.
