Anyone using a Jegs, PRP, or Proform electric water pump for a big block? The jegs and prp pumps are advertised as 50 gallon while the proformis 35+. I like the Jegs as it is made in USA. I doubt the others are. Any info would be appreciated. Beep

I purchased a PRP, but my car isn't running yet so I can't help you there. I'm guessing the Jegs pump is a PRP unit ... look closely.

Dont buy a pump just cause it flows over 40 GPM...Its just not needed.
Fact is a water pump that flows like that probably offers ZERO cooling advantages over one that flows 35-40..
They probably are good pumps..But for the last 10 years I have relied on Mezeire water Pumps exclusively.

I have been using the jegs cvr waterpump and love it. It's quiet, and keeps the car nice and cool.

I don't totally agree with that Bob...I think increased flow is an advantage in a street/strip car. In a drag car 35-40 is plenty though...

This is good info on the matter:

Let me ask you this on street cars with regulated or restricted cooling systems. Most street cars run some type of thermostat or some kind of restriction. I just dont even see a thermostat even flowing now where near that kind of flow.... Heck it would probably take my water hose on the side of the house 8-10 minutes to fill up 50-55 gallon drum of water....
im just saying

Your right about the thermostat....but I think for optimum cooling even a street/strip car should leave out the thermostat.

Thats an interesting point about the garden hose though...

You can't remove the t/stat completely, the water will flow too fast in the block and not remove the heat. Now if you remove the "gust"from the t/stat and re-install it,it will run alot cooler, there is just enought flow w/restriction and you'll love it....Now if you thinks it's too cool just get some restrictors "Moroso,Jegs,"sells them, but I'd run the stock stat.gutted w/50/50 mix and your go to go. NO more stuck t/stats,high temp.in traffic,etc.... just my

I believe that is a common misconception....

The faster the water flows...then the more times it transfers heat to the radiator in any given amount of time.

i kinda have to agree here. after a run my water temp guage is on 210*, leave the water pump(mezzaire reverse flow 55gpm) & rad fan on for 4 minutes & everything is luke warm, in fact we can pull plugs with bare fingers in 2 minutes. my old 35gpm moroso pump we left the engine to cool for 5 minutes before working on it. more flow seems to be faster cool.
