I have a 73 charger with a 400 and there is a ticking or clicking sound coming from the bell housing.I pulled the inspection cover and didn't find any cracks where it bolts to the torque converter, could this be cracked where it bolts to the crank or could this be the converter?
Thanks,Jim

Pull one of the converter bolts and see if the bolt hole in the flex plate is elongated. If not, retorque the bolts. If that doesn't fix it, the flex plate could be loose/cracked at the crank or an internal converter problem.
I recently had a B&M converter that was blowing up and it sounded EXACTLY like a loose/cracked flex plate. That sound was intermittent though.

Thanks I will check the bolt holes. This makes the sound constantly,I did see some circular scratch marks on the engine side of the flex plate and I think theres some fine metal shavings on the inside of the bellhousing.
