I just bought a used Doug Nash 5 speed transmission. I'm curious as too how much work and what modifications are needed to put it in a 66 B body. Transmission currently has a chevy input. Are you guys switching to a mopar input or just custom building a pilot bushing and using the chevy input? Pictures of the modified transmission tunnel would be helpful.

Thanks,
Seth

Quicktime bellhousing (RM6079 most likely)will let you keep the same input. Tunnel and crossmember mods are going to be quite extensive.

Yep, get out the sawzall and start cutting. The shifter will come up right where the torsion bar crossmember is. That needs to be cut away and you have to build a new crossmember as well as a new shifter box. Fairly simple mods for a street rod guy but most Mopar owners faint at the thought of making sheetmetal modifications.

It's a lot of work but well worth it.Just make sure you fab the tranny mount very strong with gussets.I looked at mount the other day and it's starting to flex I should have put a limiter on it when I added the extra ponies and bite

I bought a DN 5 speed with a Ford pilot shaft. Quicktime had a SB Mopar bellhousing for that application.

I had Liberty Gears make a 1"-23 spline input shaft out of m-300 material. It was like $160.00

Call Brandon at Liberty, I think he told me that's what they make their clutchless main shafts out of, so there wouldn't be a special order.

I use the crank insert from brewers with a bushing pressed made for the chevy input shaft....is the input shaft cut short? If so and you need an insert and bushing, just email me.

The chevy input will be to short, but if you do have one made to fit look into the mopar length and a chevy spline. Disc will be a third in cost.

So if i stay with the gm input shaft what throwout bearing and clutch fork combination would I use? Richmond makes a mopar bearing retainer but they couldnt tell me if it will work with the gm input. The quicktime bellhousing listed for this application looks to be shorter to make up for the shorter input. Id like to use the gm input instead of changeing it over to mopar as I need a bellhousing anyway.

Thanks Seth

Call the guy's that do this stuff every day. Liberty, G-force or Richmond. Tell them what you got and what you would like to do and they'll tell you if it will work or not and point you in the right direction.

I agree Call Liberty's and tell them what you are doing and I am sure they can make what you need. Also might want to go here www.umtrnorth.com because there are quite a few guys with tons of parts for Nash boxes.

The Lakewood 620-77-325 will adapt a LA Chrysler engine to a Chevrolet trans.

Years ago I went thru the same thing, DNE 5spd with GM input going behind a Mopar, I just bought the Mopar input and front bearing retainer. No matter which way you go it's gonna cost something. One more thing, a stock bell housing does not work too well, one bolt hole (lower left) falls into empty space. You can fill it, mill it flat, drill and tap (what I did).

Good luck
