The BESTest stuff can be found at a automotive paint supply store. Don't remember the brand .. but it has actual fiberglass strands in it. About 35 beans per gallon ...IIRC.

That rings a bell .. but I have seen another brand that is the same type/style ... but recommended HIGHER than Duraglass.

COULD BE one of those brands. It has been awhile since I have been to the paint-store. It was called Painters-Supply in the Detroit area .. they DO mail-order. I would go there for waxes, DA paper and wet-or-dry sandpaper.

I never bought any of that since 99.9% of my stuff never needed any bondo. ONLY on the multiple piece molds did I ever need to do any body-work on it.

B U T .. there is a FG company talked about on-here that buys their bondo by the FIVE GALLON PAIL !

If you use the figberglass stranded stuff you'll be sanding it forever. It is not intended for dent filling. I have used all brands from like $11 a gallon to the $20 a gallon stuff and it all seems the same to me. All smells the same, sands the same, fills the same. That evercoat is some stuff I have right now. Buy it at an automotive paint store and its cheaper. And you always need more than you think. If you ever did occasional dry wall, you'd know what I am talking about. good luck. Remeber though, it goes on real easy, it doesn't come off so easy!

are you asking about polyester filler to repair and smooth out imperfections or repairing a fiberglass boat?

Rage Extreme would be the best polyester filler,it can cost over $50 a gallon depending where you buy, Rage Gold would be second best,Rage and Z-Grip third,

Not sure why Doc brought up chopped strand fiberglass filler, generally it's not the best choice when repairing minor waves or dings ,but if you must have fiberglass reinforced filler, get Everglass, Dynaglass is garbage compared to Everglass,

And if you're working with any fillers, especially fiberglass reinforced fillers, do yourself a favor and pick up a cheese grater ,it can save you hours of sanding and alot of sandpaper,

You might be talking about Metal-to-Metal filler.
I believe it has aluminum particles/dust in it.
A resin like fiberglass, but no glass fiber.
It mixes like bondo.
Expensive and gets really hard which makes it hard to sand.

If I remember right it's made by Evercoat, who also make Dura-Glass and Kitty-Hair fiberglass fillers.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

As I said above I never noticed any real differences between the brands. Can you tell me what makes that "gold stuff" better? Does it sand easier? Really curious here. Thanks

The higer quality fillers will sand easier and also less susceptable to pinholes from tiny air bubbles.

also they are usually tack-free and have less chance of shrinking, and also have alot less weight to it

That fiberglass stuff, of which Kittyhair has the longest strands, is for hacks trying to fill in rust holes, or for fiberglass repair. Evercoat is the best I've used. I used to use their Tack-Free, but I guess Rage replaced it. Their Polyester Glazing Putty is awesome for tiny stuff that some people use that 3M stuff in a tube for. Stay away from that.
