I got the 440 running for about 10 minutes and then had to shut it down because one valve cover was pouring oil on the headers and I didn't feel like testing my homeowner's policy. Anyway, when I went to crank it back up, the hot wire for the choke shorted out and smoked my harness pretty good. It'll take a few days to fix that. Once it's ready to run again, should I change the oil and filter now, or will it be okay to run it another 10 minutes or so to finish the break in and then change it. This sucks. britt

You're good on the oil/filter but the Q is whether to pull the intake and regoop the lobes especially w the no start cranking that has taken place. There is a reason the 20-30 minute proper cam/lifter prescribed breakin is std procedure.
live every 24 hour block of time like it's your last day on earth

I would think the breakin lube was gone shortly after it fired up. It fired up fairly quick and then things started going south. thanks for the reply! britt

Finish the break in, you'll be fine.
Good to hear it fired up. I was kinda worried about that joker you had degree in the cam. I know you're the electrical whiz, but call me if you need something. I've been trashing a lot of stuff lately, but I still might have what you need.

with rapidrobert read enuff post on here about wiped lobes, bad lifters/cams on fire up due to oil, zink, break in additives and rebuilds with 0 mile only hrs of run time and $$ spent on it it does sound over kill but I rather go the extra mile with my junk to get it right the first time round i cant afford it 2x but with lube sitting on the work bench and an air ratchet there it would be off and lubed agian if it was mine good luck on the 2x fire up and break in

If you were going to wipe the cam it would have been early -- in the first minutes. If you got 10 minutes on the first stage you're good. Your lifters are obviously rotating, and you're not running a big solid with a lot of spring. As long as it fires quick on the restart you're fine. Also, because of the electrical problem, make sure you have 12v at the coil before you start cranking.
