Buddy of mine has this problem. His son was building a 71 Demon. 340 with Indy heads & TTI headers. Factory 340 4 speed, manual steer car.

Problem is the steering hits on the pass side real bad. Can't even turn the wheel! Looks like the engine would have to come back at least one inch & maybe up to clear. Any ideas?

His son died before this was sorted out & Dad is not sure of what is what.

I do know headers are 340A-C-4.
Thanks, Doug

i think the crank centerline should be like 5 1/4" from the k frame i had to shim the bottom of the engine mounts. might want to check TTI web site maybe a pdf file on instructions if he is missing them. Not 100% but if it was a 6cyl car it might not have the correct center link that drops down?????

I had to shim my motor mounts and notch the k-frame on one side to slide the engine back about 1/4". Headers ended up fitting without needing dents. Make sure you read the TTI install instructions. They have specs on where the engine should be located. You can download them from the TTI web site. I run the Schumacher Torque Strap which keeps the engine from moving around so the headers never hit anything.

It is a factory 340 car that has been in the family for 35 years.

Are any of you guys running Indy heads? I think this adds to the problem. Don't know if the Indy's moved the ports down?

At this point it looks like shimming the engine up would not be enough, it needs to go back an inch & that going to throw everything else off.

Bad thing is its been sitting for 3 years since his son died. He is just now getting to where he wants to see it done. I will take some pics the next time I am out to his place.
Thanks, Doug

The main problem is the head if i remember right the exhaust port is raised on the indy's

These tti's should fit accord to TTI they lissted a a race heaer with a w-5 pattern on the exhaust

The TTi number you gave for you headers doesn't list the headers fitting TTI's but it is for a stock port location.

Don't hesitate to call TTI. They have always been helpful when I called them.
