Is anybody out there running a Sun Super Tach II? I have an old one that I'm trying to install, but I can't figure out which order to place the wires going into the back of the tach. There are four prongs in the center hole, and I need to know where to put the red, black, green, and white wires.
Thanks,
Ethan

Are the prongs marked at all?
You know the color codes to your car correct?

The prongs are marked "G","B","L", and "T"

I know where run the wires to the coil, ground, power and light source, but I dont know which prongs to hook the wires to on the tach itself.
Thanks,
Ethan

Here is the install guide. Right click on it and save it to your system and it can be enlarged for viewing.

I just installed one in my car today!!

How did you find out it was inaccurate? Did you compare it with a another tach? How far off was it?

Some see the glass as half empty, some see the glass as half full. I just drink straight out of the bottle.

i first figured out it was off when i took my car into valve float at the track , it was only showing about 5300rpm ??

used my matco timing light with rpm meter built in , when the tach was at 800 rpm , engine was 1200 , at 2000 rpm the engine was 2600 , at 3000 rpm the engine 3800 , at 4000 rpm the engine was at 5000 ....

the old sun tach i have it it now is just about right on what the timing light is , but i installed an MSD shift light on the side of the tach so i don't have to take my eys off where i am headed

I was wondering why my car was suddenly able to idle at 500 rpm.

Guess I'll have to check it out against my trusty Craftsman tune up tach. I've thought about a shift lite, too. But I prefer having the visual of the tach needle swinging up. It lets me anticipate the shift rather than react to a shift lite.

Dont forget that they do come with a zero adjuster. If the tach doesnt show zero when the engine's off, look on the back, there's a little peg that slides back and forth to adjust that.
Thanks,
Ethan

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've had my sun II tach for 15yrs, it's been in every car I've ever had, and it works perfect. You can correct the "0" with the adjuster on the back, i checked it against a expanded scale service tach and it's dead on. I love mine....

i tried that and it not being on zero was not the issue .

if you want it just for looks it will be fine , if its something you want to USE then its not even remotely accurate , but you need to check the one you have to confirm that .

plus it was a piece of cheap plastic junk and i didn't like that about it either , the old sun units have steel bezels that are chrome and a chrome steel cup ...

i run a pill in the light a few hundred rpm under where i want to shift to make up for the delay , you really should be looking at where you are going instead of at your feet , unless you have the tach mounted on top of the dash , especially when the assend is kicking out sideways

The one I have has been in my dad's '79
Lil' Red Express since 1980. Quote from him, "You dont make 6200 rpm passes on a 360 with the stock bottom end without really trusting your tach."
So I'm pretty sure it'll be just fine for what I need.
