Adjust the front carb, then switch it with the rear, put rear on front adjust and then switch them back.Be sure the mixture screws are loose, they are easy to break.

wow. that seems like a pain! the idle on the 6-packs wasn't all through the center carb?

<----------- never owned or worked on a 6-pak

Each carb has it's own idle circuit...End carbs have a lead plug{over the idle screws} from the factory...So technically you'd only have the center to adjust...But to really tune them in you need to adjust all three...

all i want to do is adjust the idle down a bit.. but the screw being under the center carb leaves about an inch or so of clearance.. not even space to even get the smallest stubby screw-driver under it.

i was thinking there must be a tool, as otherwise u have to remove the carb to make an adjustment- what a pain that will be...

If you have an idle solenoid adjust the screw in the green circle while running...If you don't have the solenoid adjust the idle using the throttle shaft screw in the red circle...

This is the best way, 62maxwgn knows as much about these carbs as anyone.

There is a special tool but spendy as I recall, but other guys have had success with a 5/16th's ratcheting wrench and a screwdriver bit.

I can't afford this. mark

The wording is a little tricky on this thread but I don't think everyone is on the same page here...All the guy wants to do is turn the idle down on the center carb...Not try to pull lead plugs and mess with the fuel mixture on all three...

If you read his post he says the screw is under the carb. There is nothing on the center carb that has to do with idle that is under the anything.

I believe there is a fast idle screw in a squirrelly place down low, on passenger side of carb. The base idle screw should be in plain site on drivers side of carb, and I remember being able to turn it with my fingers with air cleaner in place. Even so, with air cleaner off, it is looking right at ya.

boy the wording went south in a hurry on this one. to me to sounds like a curb idle question however, when ask in the same sentence about the screws under the carbs changes things. crub idle red or green circle as stated above. idle mixture under the carbs. buy the promax base plates they are worth the money.

there is no idle screw on any of my carbs that are on the bottom like the OP posted. yes, there are mixture screws in the front and rear baseplates but he seems to be saying theres a throttle plate opening screw that comes up from the bottom- like the secondary idle adj screws on some 4 bbls- and mine dont have that

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

There are no screws on the passenger side of the carb.Only adjustment is the cam for the choke pull-off adjustment and that is done by bending the cam tab with a screw driver inserted into the slot on the lever.

All screw adjustments are on the throttle linkage side.

Thanks for the correction, and the detailed pic. I do think that the base idle adjustment has been figured out by now.
