I intend to use a heat shield beneath my carbueretor and was wondering whether to put a gasket between the shield and the carburetor. While studying th HP book "Holley Carbueretors and Manifolds", the author states that while a gasket is required between the shield and the manifold "no gasket is used between the shield and the carburetor" Wouldn't this be a potential source for a leak? Any opinions or thoughts would be appreciated.

Your best bet is to run a gasket on both sides of the heat shield.

Correct. "no gasket between carb and shield" is a misquote (on their part) as you absolutely would need one of those thin carb base gaskets between metal to metal. A thin gasket on the intake flange then the shield then another thin gasket then the carb or the thick felpro ~3/8" fiber? gasket/spacer (instead of the carb) on the the 2nd thin gasket then a 3rd thin gasket (a thin gasket on either side of the felpro) then the carb (hood clearance permitting). The harder felpro thick gasket/spacer is meant to seal but imo a softer thin gasket on either side of it seals better but does increase the height. Mock it up ahead of time w no sealer & check fitment
