Fast ratio or standard?

I honestly have never compared them, but this one is on a fast ratio car;

I rarely look at power steering stuff, that is why I made it a point to photograph that one when I saw it.

AARs would have the fast ratio box.

T/As could have the fast ratio or the std. ratio box if that helps at all.

Most all 340 engines that I have seen in 70-71 years have the 3 spoke pulley. Most 318 engines have the solid pulley. The only reason I can think of is for better cooling with the HP engines.

and thats what mine looks like. federal pump, 3 spoke pulley

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

I've had 2 1971 340's and they had the 3 spoke pulley with the federal pump. I've also had a couple 318 1971 cars and they had the solid pulley.

What's strange is that the 70-71 parts book only shows one pulley for the pressed on type threaded shaft pump for all small blocks when in fact there are 2 different styles. The part number is 2951901.

All the ones I've seen were A-body cars, so maybe it was different for 340's in e-bodys. It might be a supplier change. It sounds like the solid pulley could be on a 340 or 318 but the 3 spoke was 340 only? I'm only talking Federal pumps here.
