I need to bypass the switch to make my B&M Mega Shifter back up switch work. I am used to working on mopars with the back up switch in the tranny.

Is it in the steering column or down below near the stop light switch by the brake pedel arm.

Please help.

I looked at the electrical diagrams last night and then looked under the dash and could not find the switch. The diagram showed it near the stop (brake) light switch?

Should be on the steering column, on top of the tube under the dash.

Course that's a column shifted car.

Change your neutral safety switch to a 3 terminal and change to a 3 terminal connector. Run 12 volt to pin 1 and connect pin 3 to backup lights.

If I'm not mistaken on the floor shift cars no matter whether they are standard or auto trannys have the switches mounted on the tranny as a shift lever activates them. What transmission do you currently have? Column or floor shift?

Car still has the automatic column shift column with the shifter lever removed and the linkage removed under the hood. The B&M Mega Shifter has a back up switch I can hook up to. i just need to run two wire before the back up switch once i find it.

I have a 1966 version 727 tranny.

Hey, maybe I'm missing something here, but aren't all you looking for is the line to your reverse lights? Doesn't the shifter you have contain built in nuetral and reverse light switches. If so, would you not be by passing the nuetral safety switch on your tranny and wiring them to your shifter instead? There should be a plug coming off of your nuetral safety switch on your tranny. That plug will contain the wires you are looking for. Carry out a continuity check to determine the correct wires for your shifter switch connections. Do you have the instructions for the shifter handy?

The older cars had the back up light switch on the top of the base of the steering column. Not on the trans. He wants do away with the switch on the column and go to the one in the shifter. On the later cars you don't need to do this beacuse the back up lights work through the trans switch. Also you can't just change from a single terminal switch to a three prong switch because the cockscomb on the valve body is different and won't work.

No need to make it more complicated than it is.

Go to your bulkhead connectors.

It is either your top or bottom plug.

Look for the violet wire (that is adjacent to the white wire) this leads to your reverse lights.

Get your power to the console switch from the white wire that is next to the Violet wire.

Power coming out of your switch is now Switched power (power only when in reverse)

Wire this switched power to the Violet wire.

You can also follow the violet and white wire to the reverse switch/connector.

I was looking at the diagram last night and looked for that bulkhead. Is it behind the driver side kick panel?

It's the one sticking through the firewall.

From the interior it would be on the firewall about 12 inches above the accelerator pedal.

It goes thru the fire wall as stated. From the engine compartment side it would look like this.

click for larger picture

Disregard the arrows

I believe on this pictured car it is the black and purple wires coming out the top (stick car). This is not a 68 coronet, but the connector location is similar and depending on how it was plugged into the firewall I guess the connector could be on the top or the bottom.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

I found the violet and white wires going through the bulkhead and tapped into them and works perfect. Thanks for the help.
