Is there a way to measure a cam in a motor? Can it be done by measuring pushrod lift?

I have a 340 hydraulc cam, int. pushrod raises .270 and the exh. .280. Can this method be used??

Thanks

If your lobe lift numbers are correct, multiply by 1.5 rocker ratio to get gross lift,.405/.420 . That really doesn't tell you much about the cam,but you could install a degree wheel and check duration at various points and determine the ICL/ECL . Unless its a rule restricted race engine its likely a stock type cam,IMO

Thanks Goldmember, I'm now a big fan of Florida! HA, HA.

I replaced the intake last year and seen purple between the lobs. I should have measured it than. Should I measure the lift on the valve itself? My degree wheel does not fit, it hits the k frame.

You really need a solid lifter to do it right!

You don't really need to measure at the valve. Lobe lift x 1.5 should get you close, there are only a few MP cams close to that lobe lift. You would need a solid lifter or to modify a hyd lifter to measure at the valve, but there would be no point in spending that much time on it and the factory rocker ratio, lifter angle would make the numbers far off the numbers in the catalog.
