well after all these years the mufflers rusted out on the RR.
these were original date coded pieces, what would be the correct thing to do without finding NOS ones. whats my alternative to getting correct ones for the car.
almost want to weld them back up.i think the insides are rusted up too.
any suggestions.

Dale's Cuda shop has repop date coded Hemi style mufflers. So does Jim's auto part's. Dale is a sponcer here. I got mine from him and they sound beautiful. Fit very well.

Were they the "authentic mopar resto" mufflers? I bought part # dated coded mufflers with the star on them. Already had one go bad in a years time, baffle came loose, and now half a year later the other is sounding funny. I asked a couple of weeks ago about some good replacments with no responces.
As far as the A-12 car, I'd have to agree on the NOS for a car like that.

Another vote for NOS, that car deserves them, if you can find them.

Don't be shocked when you see the price for NOS hemi mufflers. The few i have seen were in the $1000.00 each price range. The one's i got from Dales have been on my car for 2 years. Still look new with no issues.

Regardless of what you decide on, save the rusty originals, there's nothing better than originals, rusty or not, in terms of future reference value.

I guess what I would do is to find the replacement that best matches your originals, be they NOS, reproduction, or mint used. I can't reccomend a source as I haven't shopped for any recently.

Chris go with NOS like stated.

What is the difference though, you don't drive it or show it, the garage floor doesn't mind the rust. Drive the thing once in a while, the heat helps save the mufflers.

Dont forget to drill the factory weep holes when you get new mufflers. Look at your old ones, the 1/8" holes should be near the bottom rear.

The resonators for my 71 Challenger I think are original? and the headpipes are original.

Should you try to coat them? You can't get them re-galvanized, so is it even worth it?

Do these date codes work for an SPD April 71 car?

One thing I have found to be a good practice is to always run the car long enough to heat up the exhaust and burn off condensation. NOS or not it will rust if just run and shut down cold. The moisture and the exhaust fumes will begin corroding what they are trapped in, mufflers/resonators.
Have reproduction mufflers on our "Survivor" Hemi Satellite for the past 12 years.
