Back in the 70's you could ask the body shop at the dealership how much to replace a fender, quarter panel, bumper, etc.. they had a book they would look up a flat rate to charge you on doing the work.

Does anybody have one of these old books laying around and could possibly look up how many hours it would take to replace a front frame rail on an A body?

In the archives there's a picture of the frame diagram for the 67-69 Dart. Is this diagram the same for the Dusters 70-72?

These were not DEALERSHIP books per se but rather flat rate books developed by companies such as Mitchell Manuals that were sold to dealerships and independent repair shops.

AND as has been discussed before, the rates were for new vehicles with easy parts availability, comparatively sloppy tolerances, and a standard level of finish. Oh, and the rest of the body had no rust and no prior damage.
Most to all of that does not apply now.

The tools, repair parts and expectations have changed!

I have an old Mitchell crash book and this is what the time is for a 70 Duster. "Front frame rail either side, 7.0 Hours with fender removed,6.5 hours with fender and lower x-member removed.Does not include any suspension time." Hope this helps. John.

I have an old section of something called a "motor's crash estimating guide" that I bought at a flea market years ago. What I bought was just the e body section, but I bet that is what you are thinking of. It actually lists all the parts for different sections of the car, their price, their Chrysler part number, and numbers like "0.8, 1.2, 1.5" after the part prices that I think are probably the times to replace.

Yes indeed, that's what I was looking for. I thank you and the rest of the members for all the great info.
I have a buddy that runs the body shop at a dealership in town. I was trying to get a rough idea on how much it will cost to have them do the work on the frame machine. Might talk him into doing it on the weekend for a discounted price.

They're called mitchell crash guides. I have from the early 60's to mid 70's editions. trust me, they are not that hard to find
