The eddy 1406 if i remember right should be a 600CFm electric shoke. It is a great all around carb imo and i used them thigns from my 273 to my 408 "i did upgrade too a bigger carb later"

Had one...didn't like it...switched to Holley and never looked back. I suppose for a stock or near stock build low CU IN motor it would work OK. Probably wouldn't use it on anything bigger than a 318.

My ran fine on my 408 crisp thorrtle respondance no off idle stumple. Plenty of Vac 18" and crisp idle. It did run out of steam up stairs but thats was only b/c on the lack of CFM. What issues did you have???

Had a 1406 on a Buick 350 and a 1407 on a 440, both had hot start problems and flat spots...put Holley 750 on the 440 and it was like night and day. Went back to the stock QJet on the Buick.

Hmmm i never had any of those problems. Did yout open up the carbs or just run them out of the box. Either i will say that i notice that my demon doesn't empty out the bowls as fast as the eddy i had after sitting for a few days in the warmer summer weather.

I am guess the location of the bowl areas has to do with it

They are generally good carbs, just not race carbs, pretty similar performance to the stock AVS you'd find on a 68-70
340. I find cores vary allot in price, anywhere between $25.00-$100.00 depending on condition. If you want more performance with good all around economy a thermoquad would be my next step up choice.

for a everyday driver they are good carbs..

I have one on a stock 318. stumbles, runs lean, (electric) choke comes off way too fast but in fairness I need to work on it, a guy here said to start it/fill the bowls then see if the fuel level is up to the slot in the float baffle for starters. I really need a LM-1, I'm tired of guessing all the time and people have them run flawless.

Several years ago I ran that carb on my basically stock 383. Great little carburetor for the street. Engine ran great.

got mine tuned the way i likes it on the 318

idles at 800-850 rpms, stomp it and it wont miss abeat all the way to 5000rpms

a stacked alum plate/gaskets and blocking the heat cross over took care of the perking bowls and hot starts

mines a manual choke and runs a little fat at idle, and will run out of cfms on a long hard blast

the eddie 750 was fat all over the place, could not find a sweet spot with it,but could tell it had more cfms on the top end a good bit over the 600 though..

but the 600 is so much more street friendly and has more throttle responce with it which make driving a little more plesurable for daily duty,IMHO

I want to see how the holley 650,manual 2ndary,spredbore,double pumper, works on the stock 440

never had one of these to play with before,so I will see if its just another holley gas hole

oh I am not knocking any of the carbs..well other than a bbd 2-v

if you want to go fast and race cant beat holley gas holes,IMO

I am not on the level to fool with a thermobog,so it wont take much for me to ditch one

but I like simple and trouble free which my 600 eddie gave almost 8 yrs out the box till a few summer ago when the crap was in all the gas and clogged it up

blew it out and reset it,been trouble free since then

yea,I am used to the bashing here

in my experience, the Eddy carbs are better cruiser/econo carbs, not tuned real well for performance out of the box. instead they focus on mileage.

whereas holley is typically a performance tune OOTB, and economy isn't even a thought.

an Eddy 800CFM w/ electric choke, OOTB gave me about 14MPG overall on the big block I put in my Dakota.

the Holley is OOTB with the exception of just 1 jet size larger on the secondaries, and it's only getting me 10MPG overall.

on the engine dyno, the Holley made about 75hp more than the eddy, OOTB. I didnt' even bother messing with the eddy trying to tune it and just went with the holley.
