Ok heres a dumb question im sure but I have to ask. Is there a difference between the auto console and the 4 speed besides the top plate?

Also can someone please provide 4 speed console bracket location info. I picked up anouther automatic console and am trying to install it in my 72 cuda which did not come with one. My car is a 4 speed car. I cannot seem to figure out where the brackets should be placed because the console sits oddly over the tunnel.

A picture would be awsome or a diagram.

Thanks yall

as far as I know, they're the same, but I've not seen a 4spd side by side with an auto, so I don't know for sure.

if I do swap mine over to a manual, I was planning on just making a new top plate, probably from REAL WOOD, instead of that metal plate with ugly fake sticker on it. might not be correct, but who cares?

The bottom half of the console is different between auto and 4-speed. They have have their own distinct cut-out to conform to the tunnel "hump" in the car. You can cut an auto console to the 4-speed profile, but not the other way around. Someone on here should be able to provide you with a template to turn your auto bottom piece into a 4-speed bottom...

There is a template floating around for cutting the auto console for 4-sp. However, personally I prefer the look of a 4-sp without console so all you see is flat carpet with that pistol grip sticking up.

I agree.

The consoles are cheesy.

I agree with Barry. If my cars wre not originally optioned with them, I would not have them installed.

Hmmm...see, and I prefer the look of the pistol grip in the console on an E body.

Well at least with the 4-sp you have the option. With the autos it's console or column. In that case I choose the console.
