Need some opinions on how to launch a traction limited truck, <mud rig> The way we run now is to flash a 5400 vert with a 727 as hard as possible , we shift the 1-2 very early, before .5 sec about 1 to 2 ft of roll out and hook up on the 1-2 shift, the weight transfer seem good lifting the front end 1 to 2 inches off the ground for around 30ft and off we go Now it seems that everyone have gone to 2 speed trans <glides> with trans brakes and 2 steps and have picked up 2 to 3 tenths, is there anything to try out before going to a glide?

Definately try starting in second gear, if you have a manual valve body. Just nail it!

could you swap the gear in the axle so that 1st gear is more "usable" off the line? or does that make 2nd gear too "tall" and you ultimately lose time?
